Once the Dominion Square Hotel, opened in 1927, then a pub, then a tavern: 1243 rue Metcalfe has crossed a century without losing its long bronze bar, its original tiles or its coat of arms.
The room sheltered Montreal's gay community from the 1970s onward and stayed men-only until 1988.
