UGO SignatureLe canal de Lachine à vélo
It's the best industrial history lesson you can take while pedalling: **fourteen kilometres** of bike path along the canal that made Montreal Canada's economic capital in the 19th century. Start at the Old Port locks, head west between the former Redpath and Five Roses factories converted into lofts, wave to the kayakers and stop at Atwater Market for an ice cream or a microbrewery beer on a terrace. The most motivated push on to Lake Saint-Louis, where the canal opens onto sunsets worthy of the sea. A BIXI is all you need; the route is flat and car-free from end to end. Insider tip: ride west at the end of the day to face the setting sun, and come back along Notre-Dame Street for a change of scenery.
