Cobbled streets, restored façades, cafés and pushchairs: Prenzlauer Berg is Berlin’s calm, leafy district. On Sundays everyone heads to the Mauerpark for the flea market and the open-air karaoke in the amphitheatre.
A working-class district built in the late 19th century, Prenzlauer Berg was a refuge for artists and dissidents in East Berlin. Its crumbling buildings, restored after reunification, have since drawn families and creatives; the Kulturbrauerei, a former brewery, is now a cultural centre.
