Next to Vila Madalena, Pinheiros concentrates much of São Paulo’s food scene: chef-driven restaurants, cocktail bars, a municipal market and art galleries. The Instituto Tomie Ohtake shows exhibitions in a colourful building.
Pinheiros is one of the city’s oldest districts: it grew from a 16th-century Indigenous village on the river. Long a working-class suburb, it changed with the arrival of the metro and now draws chefs, designers and start-ups.
