With its grand buildings, luxury shops and restaurants, Östermalm is Stockholm’s upmarket district. The Strandvägen quay runs along the water, and the Östermalm food hall gathers fishmongers, cheesemongers and seafood counters.
Once military land, the area was developed in the late 19th century for the bourgeoisie, who built Paris-inspired apartment blocks. Stureplan, its main junction, became the heart of the city’s upmarket nightlife.
