Across the Ponte Vecchio, the Oltrarno is the Florence of artisans: gilders, bookbinders, cabinetmakers and shoemakers still work in their workshops. Visit Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens, then end the evening on Piazza Santo Spirito.
When the Medici moved into Palazzo Pitti in the 16th century, they built the Vasari Corridor linking their palace to the Uffizi over the Ponte Vecchio. Around it, the area remained one of workshops, and Santo Spirito keeps a church designed by Brunelleschi.
