Main Street, breweries and murals
Along Main Street, Mount Pleasant is all thrift shops, record stores, roaster cafés and small rooms where people dance late. The neighbourhood is Vancouver's craft-beer capital, and its walls get new murals every summer: this is creative, slightly bohemian Vancouver, a stone's throw from downtown.
Mount Pleasant was one of Vancouver's first suburbs, linked to downtown by streetcar as early as 1890. A creek running through it, nicknamed Brewery Creek, supplied several breweries in the late 19th century. A century later, microbreweries came back to the very same streets, and the mural festival launched in 2016 turned the area into an open-air gallery.
