Sloping streets, Baroque churches and tapas bars packed along Cava Baja: La Latina is Madrid’s favourite area for drinks. On Sundays, the Rastro flea market takes over its streets.
The district takes its name from Beatriz Galindo, known as “La Latina”, Latin tutor to Queen Isabella the Catholic, who founded a hospital here. It occupies the heart of medieval Madrid, and the Rastro has been held here for centuries.
