Amid the towers and malls of West Nanjing Road, Jing’an Buddhist Temple shines with its golden roofs. The area mixes luxury shops, residential lanes, cocktail bars and cafés.
Jing’an Temple dates back to the 3rd century and moved to its current site in 1216. Destroyed and rebuilt several times, it was entirely reconstructed from the 1980s. Around it, the former International Settlement left fine houses and lanes.
