Around Hongik University, known for its fine arts, Hongdae is the district of Seoul’s youth: buskers, indie venues, shops, themed cafés and late-night bars. The Gyeongui Line Forest Park, a former railway, is great for picnics.
In the 1990s, clubs and venues near the art school made Hongdae the birthplace of the Korean indie scene. It’s still the best place to hear live music and watch K-pop dancers rehearse in the street.
