Small squares, lanes, terraces and independent shops: Gràcia keeps a village soul. Come for the atmosphere of Plaça del Sol and Plaça de la Virreina, Casa Vicens and Park Güell up on the hill.

Book Park Güell for early morning: the light on the mosaic bench and the view of the sea are superb.

The story

How the neighbourhood came to be

An independent town until 1897, Gràcia was a borough of craftsmen and workers, known for its rebellious spirit. Gaudí built his first house here, Casa Vicens, then Park Güell, designed as a garden city and now a public park.

1During the Festa Major de Gràcia in August, residents decorate their streets spectacularly.
2Casa Vicens, completed in 1885, is the first house designed by Gaudí.
