Between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces, Bukchon is lined with hundreds of hanok, traditional tile-roofed houses. Its sloping lanes lead to teahouses, craft workshops and viewpoints over the city.
Under the Joseon dynasty, Bukchon was the district of nobles and high officials, close to the palaces. Many of today’s hanok date from the 1920s and 1930s. Because families still live there, the city has set visiting hours in the most residential zone.
