The vibe

On the south bank of the Miljacka, Bistrik climbs towards Mount Trebević. Here you find the Emperor’s Mosque, Sarajevo’s historic brewery and the cable car up the mountain.

Good to know

The Trebević cable car, reopened in 2018, takes you in minutes to the trails and the old Olympic bobsleigh track.

When to go

In the afternoon, before taking the cable car up for sunset.

Getting there

On foot from the Baščaršija via the Latin Bridge or Ćumurija Bridge.

The story

How the neighbourhood came to be

The Emperor’s Mosque, dedicated to Suleiman the Magnificent, is one of the city’s first. Sarajevo Brewery, founded in 1864, supplied residents with water from its spring during the siege.
