Sand, pavilions repainted each year by Quebec designers, and behind them the rail tracks, then the river. Village au Pied-du-Courant has held a former snow dump at the foot of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge since 2014.
Come out at Papineau metro, follow de Lorimier under the bridge, then hug the shore eastward.
